Baby Massage? A Big YES!

Baby Massage? A Big YES!

Hello! I’m a mom and a physical therapist with three adorable kids, and today, I want to share a little secret that has truly transformed our daily life: massage. Yes, you heard right! As a mom and professional, I’ve incorporated massage and foot reflexology into my children’s routine, and the benefits are incredible.

Salut ! Je suis une maman kiné de trois enfants adorables, et aujourd'hui, j'aimerais te parler d'un petit secret qui a vraiment changé notre quotidien : le massage. Oui, tu as bien entendu ! En tant que maman et professionnelle, j’ai intégré le massage et la réflexologie plantaire dans la routine de mes enfants, et les bienfaits sont incroyabl

Why Massage is Magical for Little Ones

You know, children, just like us, experience stress, fatigue, and emotions they can’t always express. Massage is a wonderful way to help them relax and feel secure. It also strengthens our bond, which is super important for their emotional and social development.

But beware, children don’t always react in the same way. They have their good days and their off days. For instance, if during a massage your little one starts yawning, squirming, or even crying, it might be a sign that they’re not in the mood, or something might be bothering them. It’s important to respect these signals and not force the massage.

These reactions can include:

  • Trembling: They might shiver or tremble a bit, a sign of tension release.

  • Sneezing: This can be a reaction to touch, especially if you use oils or creams.

  • Yawning: A classic sign of relaxation but also fatigue.

  • Gag reflex or hiccups: Sometimes they might have gastrointestinal reactions if you massage their little belly.

  • Agitation: A sign that they might be either overstimulated or not relaxed enough.

  • Falling asleep: The best sign! It means they are completely relaxed.

  • Accelerated breathing, facial grimacing: Signs of stress or discomfort.

  • Crying: A clear signal to stop and try another time.

Reflexology? I Say YES!

In addition to classic massages, foot reflexology is a real treasure, especially for the little ones. This technique stimulates specific points under their tiny feet, each point corresponding to a different part of the body. It’s amazing how effective this can be for soothing colic, boosting digestion, or even improving sleep.

When Massage Becomes a Grandma’s Remedy

Did you know that massage can also be used for specific issues like ear infections, teething pain, or even sucking problems related to breastfeeding? It’s true! For example, gentle massages around the ears and jaw can help with ear infections or pain during teething. For babies who have difficulty latching, specific massages can relax the muscles around the mouth and facilitate breastfeeding.

Tips for Massaging Your Child

Here are some tips to make massage a joyful and soothing experience for your child:

  • Choose the right moment: Right after a bath or before bedtime are often ideal times.

  • Create a soothing ambiance: Dim lights, calming music, everything to make the space welcoming.

  • Use suitable oils: Choose gentle, hypoallergenic oils specifically designed for children.

  • Listen to your child: Start gently, observe their reactions, and adapt to their needs.

Want to know my personal tip? Do it anywhere, anytime, and just the way you feel like it. You can never go wrong. The main thing? Enjoy it
